Hi! Welcome to my first post. Look it’s a tutorial no one asked for but imma do it anyway. Here’s how to make gold text on Canva right on your smartphone (iPhone).
In just a few simple steps, anyone can do this (no need for that graphic design degree amiright?) and you can do this anywhere too!
This post was inspired by Louisa’s post (on The Sparkling Brunette blog). She did a tutorial for adding rose gold text on Canva. Give credit where credits due, people!
Anyways, I’ll talk you through what Canva is and then we’ll get straight into the gold lettering tutorial.
What is Canva?
Canva is a graphic design platform (or tool, however you may call it) made simple to use. This platform was founded in Sydney, Australia by Melanie Perkins, Clifford Obrecht and Cameron Adams in 2012.
It allows you to create social media graphics (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc.), posters, presentations, documents and other visual content.
It’s free to use as well as offer paid subscriptions for Pro and Enterprise. The free version is still great and offers wonderful features. If you want to use it for more than that, you can upgrade to the pro version (which I have).
In addition to it being a graphic design tool, you can also pay for Canva to ship or print physical products.
I use this amazing graphic design tool daily for creating… nearly everything really. This includes my social media templates (which you can purchase from my Etsy store here), my vision board collage, revamping my documents, resumes, Pinterest graphics, you name it!
Anyways, you get the idea now. Let’s start making your Gold text on Canva!
Tutorial
You can open Canva on your mobile browser or have the Canva app (recommended). You can download it FOR FREE (let me repeat that: FOR.FREE) and so is making an account (if you haven’t). You can get it here.
I’m going to be doing this tutorial on an iPhone. I’m not really sure how different the app is on Android so…
Alright now find your design canvas. What platform are you planning to create? Instagram posts, Instagram stories, Pinterest Pins, Facebook covers or Twitter headers?
You can search up the platform you’re planning to create the content on in the search bar (for example “Facebook covers”) OR make your own custom size by clicking on the purple plus icon (it’s on the bottom right).
Now your post should look like this. You know, like you’re staring at a blank canvas. See that bottom grey plus icon on the right? Tap that to bring up the tool menu.
Then tap on “elements”. It’s on the far left side, the second row. The icon depicts four different shapes.
Scroll down until you find a bunch of letters in alphabetical order. That’s what we’re going to be using to create your gold lettering text.
By tapping on them it will bring the letters on the canvas. You can duplicate a letter by selecting one (or multiple) letters, then tap on the two rectangles with the plus sign icon (it’s on the very far left next to that trash bin).
Fun tip: so how do you select multiple things on the canvas? Easy. Just tap and HOLD and it should pop up with “[no.] elements selected”. Once you see that pop-up, let go and tap on the other elements. You can also group them by tapping on “group”. Self-explanatory.
Now go back to that grey plus icon and go to “Photos”. The icon should depict a photo image.
Search up “gold” (or whatever you want your text image to be) and tap on an image you find fancy.
If you’re planning on keeping the same image (which I sure hope so), you can duplicate it with the same icon I referred to earlier (the far left icon on the bottom).
Now drag the image to the letter grid until it shows a preview of the image is in the grid.
Boom! You learned how to create gold text on Canva for your posts. It’s really simple and you don’t have to do it with just gold. You can add in rose-gold, silver or any type of image you want.
